Monstrous feminine

More recent work, this time a concept art scan-and-color dash for Beastly Things. I've been focusing on the linework with the new crop of design sketches, letting the ink do the heavy lifting and keeping color minimal. Since the post-production is looking too heavy on an already labor-intense project, all I can do at this point is pre-empt the cloud of headaches.

This is the monster that Spook morphs into after years of living in the cistern, dining on rats and carving into rocks with her hands. It does the trick; if I were a local kid, I'd stay the hell away from that place if I thought this was what lurked in the dark. I had earlier sketches, but this is a more advanced stage of the design. If you're unfamiliar with the process, don't let the number of lines concern you; concept work is more about nailing a feel. There will be a great deal of simplification when its's animated.

I can't wait to do movement tests with that construct!

  1. I think I dated her about 27 years ago…always had a problem with her hair first thing in the morning…

    A piquant piece of work…
